DIY Watercolor Paper Squares Backdrop

Jordan recently developed this amazing idea to make use of her scrap letterpress newspaper. It is simple, quick to create and it creates such a massive effect as a vibrant backdrop for a buffet or perhaps a party photo booth!

Materials Needed: Cold-press watercolor paper, x-acto knife, ruler, watercolor paint (or gouache), 2″ paintbrush, container or cup for water, plastic tablecover (or other waterproof surface), pencil, painter’s tape

Step 1: Cut watercolor paper into 120 — 4.5″ x 5″ rectangles. If you are using a 9″ x 12″ pad with 30 pages, then you must have only enough!
Measure 2: Paint swatches of colors on each rectangle using big, broad strokes. Play around with the density of the pigment, making some lighter or brighter than others. Lay the papers out to warm on a waterproof surface.
Step 3: Once dry, arrange the swatches out end-to-end in a order. You’ll want to have them laid out 8 swatches tall and 15 swatches broad to have the measurements that we’d. When you’ve settled on a layout, it is time to put up this!
Measure 4: Lightly mark the midpoint of your table .
Step 5: With loops of painter’s tape, then stick the swatches on the wall by one, beginning with the column at the midpoint of the table. Make certain to bring a step back here and there to verify that the swatches are all heading up right! You are all done!
