Tang repeatedly has stated that its objective is to create, build, finance, produce, market and distribute movies in the U.S., China, and internationally. Friedman, who signed up a long term arrangement, will be responsible for all the TMP global assets outside of China.
Friedman will oversee all IM Global personnel and jobs in addition to the ones at Open Road. He has a solid business promoting thoughts and will float on the best ways to bring the companies together and capitalize on the IPs they create across all formats.
Tang and Friedman started talking to each other about potentially working together a year ago. “I believed the assets he was attempting to deliver together was an interesting mix and introduced a fantastic opportunity to construct a company with,” Friedman informed Deadline. “He is a very positive energy and is constantly looking at the long run that is a excellent companion to share this trip with.”
Friedman, who had been talked about for various jobs around the town — such as for the Paramount and Legendary chairs — prior to taking the reins at TMP, is an executive with about 40 decades of expertise. He knows financing, acquisitions, production, promotion and distribution, and it has helped direct the strategy for some of Hollywood’s most important franchises, such as The Hunger Games along with Twilight movies. He also established and built (along with Patrick Wachsberger) generation and distribution company Summit Entertainment by the ground up. He was co-chair and CEO at Summit before it was acquired by Lionsgate at 2012.
“Basically, we’re building a worldwide content company in the current world that is changing rapidly as most of us know,” Friedman informed Deadline. “And it’s much different than when Patrick and I did it together with Summit. The digital and social explosion across the world has not only changed the way we produce and create content but touches on the way we view them too.”
At Lionsgate, he directed the releases with his honored background in advertising and has been a relied-upon executive helping to map out overall strategy for the organization. He helped construct the launch slate which contained two Best Picture Oscar nominations last year in Hacksaw Ridge along with La La Land. Actually, he advised Lionsgate into a total of 26 Oscar nominations last year. He was also constantly on the quarterly calls with Wall Street analysts each quarter for Lionsgate.
1 insider noted that Tang “was impressed by Friedman’s credibility, standing and management style.”
Tang Media Partners was set two decades back. The business is backed by partners and shareholders who includes Tencent Holdings. IM Global Television is a combined partnership together with Tencent. TMP is headquartered in Century City and has offices in China.
