Chandigarh leading cop denied path diversion for Ram Rahim’s convoy to Panchkula

Luthra states that he received a call from senior Haryana intelligence officer 30 minutes ahead of the cavalcade was to hit Chandigarh, requesting him to allow it to pass through the UT to enter Panchkula.

    Haryana Police wanted Chandigarh to provide passage to the 300-odd cars convoy of Dera followers, accompanying Gurmeet Ram Rahim on August 25, to pass to enter Panchkula. The director general of authorities Tajender Singh Luthra, nevertheless, refused to permit the same.

    He explained: “Chandigarh was never a part of the road plan,” and added: “There wasn’t any justification for its diversion from the planned course plan.”

    Luthra was present in the Zirapur-Chandigarh to make sure that no vehicle is permitted entrance. The DGP had hurried with Punjab governor and UT secretary VP Singh Badnore, to be to take charge.

    The vehicular traffic about the Zirakpur-Chandigarh highway was discontinued and the nakas strengthened. The cavalcade that entered Zirakpur was escorted by A Chandigarh authorities pilot vehicle. As it headed towards Chandigarh, Haryana officials wanted the cavalcade to go in aftermath of the gathering of supporters on the faces of the street through Chandigarh.

    The pilot had been, however, instructed to e****t the cavalcade to take a U-turn towards Zirakpur after touching down by the flyover and enter Panchkula from the Zirakpur side.
