Watch Bernie Sanders Drop A Truth Bomb On Conservatives At Liberty University (VIDEO)

Democratic Senator Bernie Sanders brilliantly responded to conservatives during a speech at the private Christian college, Liberty University, Monday morning. When the moderator tried to trap Sanders into an uncomfortable moral position he dropped a bomb of truth. The moderator asked:

Sen. Sanders, you have talked in your campaign about how it is immoral to protect the billionaire class at the expense of the most vulnerable in society, obviously children. A majority of Christians would agree with you, but would also go further and say that children in the womb need our protection even more…How do you reconcile the two in your mind?

He responded:

This is an area where we disagree. I do understand and I do believe that it is improper for the United States government or state government to tell every woman in this country the very painful and difficult choice that she has to make on that issue.

He then pointed out the Republican hypocrisy of their desire to have a small government and also regulate womens medical choices:

I respect absolutely a family that says, No, were not going to have an abortion. I understand that. I respect that, he said. But I would hope that other people respect the very painful and difficult choice that many women feel they have to make and dont want the government telling them what they have to do.

No, no moral conundrum here, as his opponent Hillary Clinton has said, no one is pro-abortion! Being pro-life, to Sanders and the majority of America, doesnt mean forcing women to make the choice that Uncle Sam has made for her regarding her uterus and what care she receives. It doesnt mean de-funding Planned Parenthood or shutting down the government either. It does mean health care for children, mothers, and families. It does mean quality, free education for our youth and adults so that we have a competitive workforce.

Sanders is right, the right-wing consistently takes food from childrens mouths, healthcare from the vulnerable, and seems to not give one f*ck about children. Fetuses, on the other hand, are worth shutting down the government over even though most people do not support them doing so. Just like they do not care about children and families, but will cut any program to make the top 1 percent even richer. Our budget shows what Republicans actually care about, Bernie is right it is immoral.

The students of Liberty University, it seems, were feeling the Bern.

      Getting scared, are we?

      • Ricardo Rebelo

        Of socialism? Who isnt?

        • Rick Derris

How much are you getting paid to troll here?

          • Ricardo Rebelo

Not as mucha as you and your homies are hoping to get in handouts if Bernie gets there…

        • Athos

If youre scared of it, you dont know what it is. Im more scared of the coming corporate fascist state and christian dominionism. You should be too, but you sound like someone who voted for Walker in Wisconsintwice.

          • http://religionandpolitics.org/ religion&politics

corporate fascist state?? LOL!!! I thought only the Faux News drones used language like this to compare their enemies to Nazis. Guess you libturds do it too whenever it suits you, huh? LOL

          • Athos

Ever hear of civil discourse? Or, does Christianity have problems with that. Wild guess: Obama is a Communist Muslim, and universities are indoctrination mills for Marxism and other such radical right fantasies.

          • http://religionandpolitics.org/ religion&politics

I very much appreciate civil discourse, and I very much dislike hypocrisy. I dont like that the Fauxbots compare those they disagree with to Nazis, but I like it even less when people like you first WHINE about it, then turn right around and do it yourselves.

Oh brother, youre really going full stereotype mill on us, arent you? Only the very tiniest fringe of the right wing (the Alex Jones types), so why are you bringing them up? Most of us are very reasonable, and we appreciate civil discourse as much as you do.

          • Athos

Civil discourse? Then why name-calling? Libturd? I honestly dont understand. I need a conversation with the other side. Im trying to understand why people support politicians and policies that are against their own interests. Explain. Ill try to listen patiently. Tell me what would be good for all of us in 2016.

          • http://religionandpolitics.org/ religion&politics

Honestly, look at the type of discourse that 99% of the posters on this site engage in. Look at all the stereotyping, name-calling, and outright bigotry they are spreading against conservatives. Hardly what Id call civil in any way. This entire site, and almost every article published therein, are full of hatred and bile directed against conservatives. Perhaps I shouldnt sink to their level, but sometimes I cant help myself.

Im sure youve heard each and every last explanation I can provide before at some point, and it all comes down to a difference of opinion and interpretation as to what constitutes our own interests.

OF COURSE I believe that the Republican party (in general, NOT in all ways) supports my interests, and so do about half the country. We would not vote for them otherwise, and the assertion that were all too stupid or uninformed to make the correct decisions ourselves is downright silly, insulting, and ultimately, entirely not useful. This is precisely why Grubers comments about the stupidity of the American voter have galvanized conservatives so much, because you liberals seem to believe that youre smarter and that you know better than we do ourselves whats best for us. Were not biting, sorry.

          • Athos

OK. I have to agree. Politics aside, you do NOT sound stupid.

          • http://religionandpolitics.org/ religion&politics

            Thank you, neither do you.

          • Ricardo Rebelo

Yeah… We all know socialism has been an amazing success in every country it was implemented… LOL

          • Athos

Not doing too badly in Scandinavia which is actually democratic socialism.

          • Ricardo Rebelo

            No such country as Scandinavia

          • Athos

Really? The countries which comprise Scandinavia. Thats reaching. So if I said Europe Id be calling it countrylike Sarah Palin thinks Africa is a country.

          • Ricardo Rebelo

Yep. You should have said The countries which comprise Scandinavia… That would have been precise… But then again no libturd cares about precision…

Heres from Wikipedia: Scandinavia[a] is a historical and cultural-linguistic region in Northern Europe characterized by a common ethno-cultural North Germanic heritage and related languages. It comprises the three kingdoms of Denmark, Norway, and Sweden. Modern Norway and Sweden proper[b] are situated on the Scandinavian Peninsula, whereas modern Denmark consists of Jutland and the Danish islands.

So which country were you talking about?

          • Athos

All of them. Copying and pasting from Wikipedia is not particularly impressive. Out of curiosity, the Libturd wants to know what you like to read, if you dont mind me asking.

        • StrangeOneClearcut

The only ones who would say they are scared about Bernie are ignorant people like you, Mr. Troll.

    • StrangeOneClearcut

You are not only a right wing troll but you are also done.Wait till the Election. There will not be an extremist right wing POS in the WH.

      • http://religionandpolitics.org/ religion&politics

Youre right, there will not be an extremest right wing POS in the White House, neither will there be an extremest left wing POS (i.e. Sanders). Its going to be one of the more moderate Republican candidates, probably (ugh) Bush.

The Dems havent won a third consecutive WH bid since WWII, and theyre certainly not going to win a third Dem term with Hillary or Sanders.

  • Hail_To_Reason

Just maybe Bernie, A womans difficult choice should be made before little Johnny is conceived. The more appropriate word might be disposable.
As far as reducing the amount of welfare. Just maybe we should be taking care of our own citizens first rather than importing poverty from other countries, there might be a little more to go around. Just maybe if the government wasnt involved in education in the first place colleges would be more affordable. When uncle sam guarantees tuition why wouldnt they charge through the nose?
I agree with you on the tax breaks for the wealthy and is why we should have a simple tax where everybody pays their fair share. The rich and the poor alike so the middle class doesnt have to shoulder the burden. Everyone deserves a fair shake but not totally at the expense of the guy who works two jobs to try to make ends meet.

    • Hail_To_Reason

The average Net Worth of US Senator goes up $1,600,000 annually …. Maybe you should think about your salary when taking the moral high ground.

    • Rick Derris

Everything youve said is not only wrong, youve said some things in such an Orwelian manner that I dont even think you believe it.

As far as abortion is concerned, maybe you shouldnt tell a woman that she should be forced into using her body to provide for another until youve done so yourself. When you decide to attach your kidneys to another man to keep him alive, let us know. Until then, youre asking women to be forced to do something you wont even do voluntarily.

Colleges have admitted that they set tuition rates based on what they consider the market value, which means they charge as high as they can before they start losing students. Tuition has gone up because the demand for a college education is higher than its ever been before in our history. It has nothing to do with government. Private colleges do the same.

Nobody talks about, taking care of our own first until its time to be heartless towards non-citizens. There hasnt been a single person who has said such a thing that has cared for the homeless before a refugee crisis gets on our hands. Once the refugees are forgotten, so are the homeless.

Which is why you say you support an equal tax code, yet not equal pay. You know this would give more money to the rich and would take from the poor, increasing wealth inequality. It would also cause the deficit to explode, giving politicians political leverage to cut programs that help the poor even more, which is why I dont believe you for a second when you say, we should be taking care of our own citizens. Tax cuts for the rich have long been used to create a fiscal crisis so programs for the poor could be cut. Lee Atwater admitted as much more than three decades ago.

      • http://religionandpolitics.org/ religion&politics

Tuition at the university where I work has gone up 35% in the last 7 years, due in large part to the horrific budget cuts we suffered due to the Great Recession. Sure, fair market value is part of this, but not the ONLY thing.

You really should stop with your bleeding-heart whining and pay more attention to the harsh fiscal reality in which we find ourselves. Most average Americans believe that we should take care of our OWN poor and needy (not to mention our veterans) before giving handouts to other nations.

        • Rick Derris

          Most average Americans.

But not you, as youve come out against taking care of Americans on many occasions.

          • http://religionandpolitics.org/ religion&politics

blah blah blah, youre projecting and stereotyping, both of which are eminently unhelpful.

          • Rick Derris

Youve come out against helping Americans many times.

No help with education, no help with health care, no increase in the minimum wage; you just dont like helping anyone.

How much is IYON paying you to troll here?

          • http://religionandpolitics.org/ religion&politics

More lies. You have no idea what I do or do not believe, just as you really dont know what most conservatives believe.

I have a PhD and am a tenured professor at a research 1 university. I spent several years on foodstamps and wic during my graduate school years, and Im grateful for it. I support helping out the needy, but I want to make sure the system isnt abused. I dont support increasing the minimum wage, but thats an entirely different argument. I wouldnt expect a simplistic doofus like you to understand this.

          • Rick Derris

            Look, youre busted.

            I get how this works.

I found it weird that you, Otto, and Ricardo werent getting banned from this place despite complaints about you and the fact that IYON has a very strong filter to block out obscenities and that you guys seemed unflaggable no matter how many times people hit that button.

Then I realized that Disqus takes the threads that have the most active discussions and pushes them out for others to see when people log into their accounts. IYON is atill relatively new, so they need some way to get noticed (as if getting pimped out by addictinginfo wasnt enough to get your traffic flowing). So a few trolls coming in and starting arguments is exactly what your site needed. When you start arguments, the discussions are much more active than when you dont have a few racist trolls in the mix.

My guess is that if youre not the site owner, youre definitely a staffer.

But hey, Im always in the market to make some money helping out the left-wing cause. If you want some help on this, you know how to reach me. Ive emailed you before.

          • http://religionandpolitics.org/ religion&politics

Fine, you busted me. However, youve never emailed me. The site linked to my disqus account isnt mine, its just to throw people off … I bet theyre like WTF is this guy talking about? LOL!!!

          • Rick Derris

I emailed IYON in the past. You know how to reach me.

      • http://religionandpolitics.org/ religion&politics

Perhaps if a woman doesnt want to be forced to carry a baby to term, perhaps she shouldnt have unprotected s e x. No on is forcing these women to do anything, theyre making that choice on their own.

        • Rick Derris

So when are you attaching your kidneys to another person?

          • http://religionandpolitics.org/ religion&politics

As soon as I engage in the type of behavior that I know can lead to pregnancy.

          • Rick Derris

Wonderful use of trolling. First pretend that youre not saying a woman should be forced to use her body to provide for another, then admit youd never do it yourself.

Id tell you to quit while youre ahead, but youre too dumb for that.

          • http://religionandpolitics.org/ religion&politics

yawn … youre a lying sack of crap, so who even cares what you say or think?

          • Rick Derris

How much are you getting paid to troll here?

          • http://religionandpolitics.org/ religion&politics

            How much are YOU?

Im here for the laughs, how about you?

          • Rick Derris

            Email me and well talk.

  • Ricardo Rebelo

    All true!

  • Liberals Are Funnier

Did you just get an email from Amy K. Dacey, democrats dot org, which asks us if we want to watch the Republican debate tomorrow and offers to remind us of this debate.

    Heres what I told them.

I dont care what the republicans have to say. I wont be voting for them in the Primaries. I will be considering Democrats and voting in the DNC primary. I WANT TO SEE DEMOCRATIC DEBATES, not republican debates.

  • Ricardo Rebelo

Bernie does seem to like to force women…
